Overview

The ven (virtual Ethernet driver) provides a virtual Ethernet connection between INtime node(s), and also Windows when running with INtime for Windows, running on the same PC host. From INtime 6, the driver has a switch capability which means that direct Ethernet communication between INtime nodes on the same host is possible using this driver.

Options

The options are set in the loader.cfg file which may be found in the %INTIMECFG%\[nodename]\etc directory. This is valid for both INtime for Windows and INtime Distributed RTOS (note that the variable INTIMECFG corresponds to /config in INtime Distributed RTOS).

The following options can be set in loader.cfg.

• dev.ven0.macauto=n
  If n = 1 then automatically generate a random MAC address for the interface when the interface is enabled. If n = 0 then use the previous static allocation of MAC address, or use the option below to manually set an address.
  (The automatic address generation feature was introduced in INtime 6).
  The default value is 1.
• dev.ven0.macaddr=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
  Set Ethernet MAC address for the virtual Ethernet device, overriding the default MAC address assigned by the system. This option should not be used unless it is necessary to explicitly specify MAC address other than the default MAC address.  If this option is used, then the MAC address is used as exactly specified without any modifications.
         
  Note: If you change the MAC address for an interface you may have to wait a while before it begins to function, until the ARP entries time out.
              
• dev.ven0.debug=n
  Set debug trace flag. Debugging information is output to I/O console. The default is 0 (= no debug trace).
• dev.ven0.pkt_cnt=n
  Specify number of TX and RX buffers. The number must be at least 4.  The default value is 16.
• dev.ven0.tx_retry=n
  The maximum number of retries virtual Ethernet driver attempts for sending a packet from INtime to Windows when TX buffers are full. The default value is 2.
• dev.ven0.tx_retry_ticks=n
  Kernel ticks to sleep for a single retry attempt. The default value is 1.
